Description
Concave:
A common technique for improving turning performance is to use concave, which involves shaping the deck so that the edges are slightly raised throughout its length. This creates gas pedals that make it easier to apply pressure to the board while riding. This is an important parameter, as boards without concave are much harder to turn and less stable.
Traditional Kingpin:
TKP, or traditional trucks, are commonly used in skateboards and fishboards. The kingpins are directed towards the center of the board, unlike RKP trucks. The advantage of this design is that during grinding, the kingpin nut cannot catch on the surface on which the hanger of the truck is sliding.
Directional Shape:
A board with a directional shape has a predetermined front and back, often achieved by designing the board with a "cone" shape. Longboards with these parameters are most commonly used for downhill and transportation, as riding switch is rare.
Top Mount Mounting:
The original and most common way of mounting longboard trucks. The baseplate is screwed to the bottom of the board. This makes the longboard "higher" than the drop-through version and slightly more maneuverable. It provides more space, allowing the rider to stand closer to the trucks for greater control.
Kicktail/Kicker:
A rounded tail that makes it easier to perform tricks and provides increased maneuverability.
